Dear Leah,
1. Often two Feng Shui Schools can be looked at with regards to a water position e.g. aquarium.
2. The most general form is based on the Shapes and Form Feng Shui. Here, ideally, the water position should be found in a `clear space' location.
Commonly, it should (commonsense) approach be placed especially an aquarium against a wall such as the living room or surrounding or even close the main door if there is sufficient space.
3. The most popular advise provided by Feng Shui practitioners is to relate a water position to the directions. For example, you have mentioned that it is considered good to place it e.g. such as East or SE (Wood Element), North (Water) etc...
4. Again this is generally an acceptable way at looking at the placement of a water position.
5. Therefore, in both of the two cases: based on Shapes and Form and Specific directions associated with an element, these are the two most common approach or advise given on water positions.
6. You have mentioned Year 2003. With regards to this, when the Year always `crop-up' it then is associated with the `Time dimensions' of Feng Shui.
7. Here, we have to put a face to this. And this is thus based on the Flying Star Feng Shui.
8. One of the important concept in the Flying Star Feng Shui is that of the birth date of the house.
9. When was the house built or had a major renovation?
For example, if the house was built between 1984 to-date (and not exceeding lunar calendar year 2003), then this house is considered as built under Period 7.
10. What happens if there is a major renovation done?
If the house was built between 1964 to 1983 (Period 6). But subsequently, there was a major renovation in say 1990. Then, this means that the house now becomes a Period 7 house.
11. To answer your question: So long as there are NO MAJOR renovations done to the house from 2003 onwards, the house will continue to have e.g. a Period 7 status. Or no change in birth chart.
12. Thus, whatever Flying Star analysis done as a Period 7 house will remain unchanged even after Period 8 or 9 etc...
13. Therefore, any attempts to activate water positions under Period 7 with recommendations on the placement of Water position will continue to remain there.
Warmest Regards,
Cecil
